There have been rare times when the painting seemed to paint itself… When all I had to do was prepare my palette and decide to begin, the next brush stroke earned just milliseconds after I delivered the last.  These paintings seem to come from a place of “no mind at all”, often to fill up a void or in answer to a deep, burning question...

Those who taught and inspired us molded us like prisms reflecting a new viewpoint.  I believe that it is our job as artists to somehow explore things that “have energy for us” and bring that energy/the life force into our art… as well as our ability to create something beautiful. 

In a very real sense, you are a prism for your life, as I am mine.  As a human being …  the work you do in the world and how you do it reflects where you have been, how you cope with life’s ups and downs, your enthusiasm, tenacity, etc., etc.

Like jazz musicians, as an artist, I work each and every day to hone and practice my skills; Sometimes I practice wielding my technique and instruments;  Sometimes I’m composing/writing, but what I am constantly working on is setting aside my ego so I can express the energy and life that is ‘me’, and translate that into paint!

For me, often times it begins with being STUNG by an image...

When an image won't put you down, if you keep working with it, eventually you might find there is meaning in it just for you.  How do you find out?  Well, you paint it, and paint it, and paint it again...
